Aftercare

Click here for a little cheat sheet (super serious, this time).

Cling film

Remove the cling film after 2 to 3 hours. Or after 4 hours. Or 48 hours. I'm not the boss of you.

Washing

Wash your hands and then wash your new tattoo with pH-neutral soap and lukewarm water. Not too hot, not too cold. It's probably not a good idea to use boiling water. Dry your tattoo with a clean towel.

Ointment

Apply some ointment after washing your tattoo. You can buy Balm Tattoo in my shop, or you can find Bepanthen at the pharmacy. An ointment for babies. Cause you cried like a little baby, didn't you? Huh?

First night

You may, optionally, wrap your tattoo in cling film the first night after getting tattooed. Maybe. Possibly. Trying is the only way to find out if it's a good idea.

First weeks

Repeat the washing and applying of ointment 2 to 3 times per day in the first week. Repeat once per day for 1 or 2 more weeks until your tattoo is fully healed.

Do nots

A new tattoo is a wound that has to heal. That means in the first few weeks you'll want to:

  • go sit in the sun all day
  • soak your tattoo in water and bathe for hours on end
  • go to the sauna or go swimming
  • scratch or pick loose skin
  • work out until you're drenched in sweat

(Please don't do any of these things. I'm just trying to be funny.)
